Turbine oil is a lubricant from the category of circulating oils, which must have special physical and chemical properties to perform the desired tasks in the turbine.
Characteristics of turbine oil
- Lubrication of bearings, gears and couplings
- Heat transfer and cooling in bearings
- Proper hydraulic performance
- Protection from rust and wear

Turbine oil
To perform these tasks in a turbine, the turbine oil must have special physical and chemical properties in order to be able to operate in the turbine for a long time under the right conditions. These properties include:
- Prevention of oxidation
- Prevention of corrosion and wear
- Isolation from weather
- Preventing foaming
To provide these properties, oil manufacturers produce turbine oil using the appropriate base oil and special additives.
In the composition of turbine oil, a maximum of 3% of additives are used, this indicates that the majority of the properties of this oil are provided by the base oil and the additives strengthen the properties of the base oil. Therefore, oil manufacturers take great care to choose the base oil used in turbine oil.
Depending on the type of turbine (gas, steam, water), turbine manufacturers consider specific conditions for the storage of turbine oil, for example, in the oil used in steam and water turbines, the water separation property is of high importance, while in gas turbines this property is not a priority. But a property such as the acidity number is important in all turbines, and manufacturers define a specific limit for this feature for their production turbines.
In any case, the best thing to do to maintain turbine oil is to use the advice of turbine manufacturers and the advice of psychologists in the CM program.
Important: In the operation of turbine oil, the care that psychologists give to the consumer to prevent the contamination of turbine oil is important, because it has been seen many times that due to the lack of care of these items, in addition to the loss of oil, serious damage has also been done to the turbine chambers, which requires a lot of time and expense to repair.
